Wareham Ford presents Wareham High DECA team with $6,000 check
Wareham Ford presented a check totaling $6,000 to the Wareham High School DECA team on Tuesday, November 19.
The money was generated during the Drive 4 UR School program in September, during which 300 members of the community test drove Ford vehicles in an effort to raise money for DECA and other Wareham High clubs.
For every person who took a new Ford vehicle for a ride, Ford donated $20. The $6,000 total — the max donation for the program — was raised well before the six-hour event was complete.
“It was a great partnership,” said Wareham High School teacher and DECA advisor Cindy Sylvia. “It was a great day.”
Drive 4 UR School is a collaboration of the Ford Motor Company and Wareham Ford.
DECA, which stands for “Distributive Education Clubs of America,” helps students gain marketing knowledge and skills needed to build a strong business background. Wareham High has sent students to DECA competitions regionally and throughout the country. Fundraising helps the students pay for transportation and other necessities.
Sylvia thanked parent volunteer Joyce Bacchiocchi for helping her organize the event. She also thanked Ford, the students, and the community for making the event a success.
