Wareham Land Trust holds Tweedy & Barnes official opening
As of Sunday, the Tweedy & Barnes conservation area is officially open to people desiring a respite in nature.
The Wareham Land Trust held the area’s grand opening in conjunction with its awards ceremony for the Trust’s photography contest winners. The contest was held through the month of October, and resulted in 19 winners in two different categories.
The Trust purchased the area last year, Board member and project head John Browning said, because it lay between two other pieces of Trust land, and the organization wanted to connect the two to make a contiguous conservation area. The area has a length of old railroad track on it, along which people may walk.
The property runs from Blackmore Pond Road to the Sippican River. The Trust held guided walks between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, to introduce attendees to the trails.
Browning said the Trust does not plan to hold guided walks in the immediate future, but does plan to host programs for both adults and kids in the coming year.
