Wareham man awaits sentencing on federal drug charges
One of the leaders of a Cape Cod drug trafficking organization was sentenced to serve 25 years in federal prison on April 8, but an East Wareham man also involved is still awaiting sentencing.
Russell Rose, 31, of Randolph, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for "distributing large quantities of cocaine and heroin on Cape Cod between 2008 and 2010."
East Wareham resident Kelvin Frye, 29, was the co-leader of the organization, and along with Rose, was convicted last December.
According to a Dept. of Justice statement, Frye was "participating in a longstanding, entrenched conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin in Falmouth, Mashpee, Bourne, and surrounding areas of Cape Cod."
Fifteen other people have been convicted of participating in the organization. A sixteenth suspect died while awaiting trial.
Law enforcement officials began intercepting phone calls between members of the organization in March 2008, according to the Dept. of Justice, and it was determined that Frye and Rose were leading the organization.
