A 23-year-old Wareham man was arrested Thursday night charged with driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed into a police cruiser, injuring the officer who was driving.

In addition to driving under the influence, Sean McCrillis was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield to oncoming traffic following the crash. The crash occurred near Shenanigan’s Bar & Grill at approximately 12:30 a.m.

According to police, Officer Peter Silvia was traveling south on Route 28 when McCrillis tried to turn left into the restaurant parking lot and collided with the cruiser, causing extensive damage to both cars. While McCrillis was uninjured, Silvia was taken to Tobey Hospital after sustaining minor injuries.

McCrillis was scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court Friday morning.
