Wareham man charged with trafficking morphine, distributing cocaine
Police arrested a 25-year-old Wareham man on charges of morphine trafficking and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute after stopping a car in Swifts Beach on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., Det. Sgt. Michael Smith pulled over a car lacking an inspection sticker after the vehicle’s operator started to drive away upon noticing the police cruiser.
Following a search, Smith discovered a bag that allegedly contained 8 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine at the feet of Matthew Cole, the driver.
Officers Blaise Lalli and Michael Phinney were called for back up. The officers reported finding a plastic bag containing marijuana, a digital scale, four cell phones and a bottle containing 375 milliliters of liquid morphine along with two syringes and $394 cash.
Cole was then arrested and charged with: possession with intent to distribute a class B substance (cocaine); trafficking over 200 grams class A substance (morphine); possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute (marijuana); and operating an uninspected motor vehicle.
Cole was arraigned in Wareham District Court on Aug. 31. He was held on $50,000 cash bail.
