Wareham man facing drug charges after car crash
Officers arrested a Wareham man for operating under the influence of drugs following a car crash on Monday morning.
Matthew Goodchild, 31, was reported to be swaying back and forth while attempting to stand straight after he crashed a Toyota Camry on Cranberry Highway around 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 11. The Camry was the only car involved in the crash.
According to police, it appeared Goodchild had injected drugs recently due to blood seen on his arm. Police said he failed field sobriety tests and was placed into the custody for operating under the influence of drugs and marked lanes violations. Inside the car, police found two empty pill bottles, two used needles and a burnt spoon, indicating recent drug use.
Police said a preliminary investigation shows Goodchild may have nodded off while driving. Police said Goodchild was not injured during the crash.
Goodchild was arraigned on the criminal charges at Wareham District Court Monday afternoon.
The Wareham Police Department, Emergency Medical Services and the Wareham Fire Department responded to the scene.
