Wareham man, father charged in New Bedford murder
A 20-year-old Wareham man has been charged with murder and his 38-year-old father is charged with assault in a July 6 shooting that left one man dead outside a 7-Eleven convenience store in New Bedford.
The Bristol County District Attorney's office formally charged Darius Gamboa, 20, of Wareham, on Sept. 18. Gamboa was also charged with carrying an illegal firearm in the incident.
Gamboa's father, 38-year-old Ryan Gamboa of New Bedford, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder earlier this month.
The District Attorney's offices alleges that Darius Gamboa waited outside the 7-Eleven convenience store on Cove Street in New Bedford, while Ryan Gamboa argued with victim, 31-year-old Julio Barbosa of New Bedford, inside the store.
Ryan Gamboa allegedly pulled a knife and chased Barbosa out of the store. As Barbosa was running through the parking lot, the District Attorney's office alleges that Darius Gamboa shot him once in the back, fatally.
An arraignment date has not been set for Darius Gamboa, who is currently being held in the Plymouth County House of Correction due to a probation violation, according to the District Attorney's office.
Ryan Gamboa has been arraigned on the assault charges and is held in lieu of $12,500 cash bail.
