Wareham man killed in workplace accident
A Wareham man was killed Monday evening in a workplace accident that left him pinned between a tractor trailer truck and a loading dock.
Scott J. Frey, 37, was found dead at Hiway Safety Systems in Rockland after he apparently lost his footing on a loading dock platform ramp and fell between the dock and the bumper of a truck he was helping park.
According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, Rockland Police and Fire officials found Frey lying unresponsive on the pavement, bleeding from severe head trauma. Frey was transported to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene to investigate, as did the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section Unit and Truck Team. So far, investigators determined that a tractor trailer truck operator was attempting to back his trailer unit into the loading bay while Frey was guiding the driver.
The operator of the truck held an active driver’s license and commercial driver’s license and has not been charged.
The accident remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are also investigating.
