Wareham man receives award for service to veterans

Wareham resident Ervin "Tootsie" Russell was recognized for his continued service to veterans at the Congressional Black Caucus' annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C., on September 20.
The Veterans Braintrust, which serves as an advisory group to the Congressional Black Caucus, awarded Russell the "Outstanding Service to Veterans of All Periods" certificate.
Russell and George N. Leighton (Capt., U.S. Army WWII), both of Cape Verdean decent, received the award. Ambassador Maria de Fátima Lima da Veiga of the Republic of the Cape Verde Islands was on hand for the ceremony.
