Wareham officers rescue fox from storm drain grate

May 20, 2020

A young fox found itself in a sticky situation on Wednesday morning, May 20. Luckily, Wareham Natural Resource officers were able to set it free with the help of some common household items.

According to a Facebook post from the Wareham Department of Natural Resources, good Samaritans found the young fox, or “kit,” on Wednesday morning with its head stuck in a storm drain grate. They notified the police department right away and natural resource officers went to help.

With the help of a good Samaritan, the officers improvised a quick solution to help the kit slip its head out of the grate.

Using dish soap and vegetable oil, the human helpers were able to set the kit free while its concerned mother watched on.

Before releasing the kit, officers gave it a quick bath to wash off the soap and made sure that it wasn’t injured.

The author of the Facebook post wrote that “We’re happy to say no injuries were sustained and a very clean fox was released back to the wild!”
