Wareham, Onset fire district elections upcoming
The Wareham and Onset fire districts will hold annual elections and district meetings in April and May, respectively.
Registered voters can cast ballots in the district in which they reside.
The Wareham Fire District is up first, with a district meeting scheduled for Monday, April 8. The annual election is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at the Wareham Fire District offices, located at 2550 Cranberry Highway in Wareham.
The only contested race on the ballot is for three-year terms for clerk and treasurer. Incumbent Marybeth Fernandes has served in both positions, and is challenged by Wendy Lemieux of Dinah's Way.
Prudential Committee incumbents George Barrett and John Connolly Jr. are seeking re-election to three-year seats, and Water Commissioner Edward "Jay" Tamagini III is also seeking another three-year term. All are uncontested.
Nomination papers are no longer available for that election.
On the other side of town, the Onset Fire District will hold its annual meeting on Monday, May 20, at the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset. The annual election will be held on Tuesday, May 21, also at the VFW.
Prudential Committee Chair Marcine Fernandes's three-year term is up, as is Brian O'Hearne's three-year term on the Board of Water Commissioners.
A one-year term for Moderator is also on the ballot.
No candidates have taken out nomination papers for the Onset Fire District positions yet. Papers are available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the district office, located at 15 Sand Pond Road, until April 11.
