Wareham Police investigating assault during relay race

Wareham Police are investigating the assault of a 24-year-old Tyngsborough woman who was participating in the Reebok Ragnar race on May 12.

The incident happened at around 10 p.m. on Onset Avenue.

"Somebody grabbed her from behind and took off," said Police Chief Kevin Walsh.

Articles of the woman's clothing are being tested for DNA evidence, Walsh said

Reebok Ragnar thanked field staff, the community and local police for their help in an official statement.

"Nobody is more important to us than the safety of our runners," they said. "We are working with our internal staff and local authorities to fully review the events."

According to the statement, the woman chose to return to the race and finish it with her team after she was cleared at the hospital.
