Wareham Police urge residents to stay off roads, refrain from reporting minor incidents

Wareham Police are calling on residents to stay off the roads and allow crews to clear debris in the wake of Friday’s devastating nor’easter.

Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh said officers have responded to more than 200 emergency calls, ranging from life-threatening issues to minor problems due to the weather.

“Throughout the duration of the storm, all divisions of the Wareham Police Department have been committed to maintaining the highest levels of public safety for our citizens,” said Walsh.

He noted that public officials are currently focused on clearing roads to ensure emergency vehicles have access without delay. While officers deal with the storm’s aftermath, Walsh asked the public to refrain from reporting minor incidents.

That will allow the department to focus its resources on “serious incidents that require an emergency response.” Walsh noted the public's cooperation will assist storm recovery efforts.

“I would like to thank the citizens of Wareham for their cooperation and understanding, as we provide the best public safety services possible during this time,” said Walsh.
