Wareham Recycling Center offers book swap
The Wareham Recycling Center is offering another way for residents to reduce and reuse with the recent addition of a book swap called the Books Barn.
"We encourage people to come over and check it out," said Recycling Coordinator Marilyn Field.
The Books Barn currently contains hundreds of books in many categories, including children's books. Patrons can bring in their own books to swap or pick up a book and leave a small donation, which will help maintain the operation of the recycling center, Field said.
Field and her assistant, Earl Russell, decided to start the program at the request of recyclers.
"People once in awhile would say, 'I've got some good books to bring in, what do I do with them?'" Field explained.
The shed which houses the books was donated by Covanta SEMASS.
Field says she hopes the program will encourage more people to use the Recycling Center's services.
"We've gotten quite a few donations," she said, pointing out that she received lots of books over the winter and has been working to organize them with the help of volunteers. "We have a few people [who use the program] and we hope to have more. ... It's our way of recycling books!"
Recyclers need no sticker to use the Recycling Center. It's open Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information about the facility and its services, call 508-291-6520.
