Feb 20, 2017

An introduction to robots, “lettuce grow a garden” and a geography bee were among the Wareham winners at Cape Cod Five’s 17th Annual Educational Mini-Grants Awards & Reception at Cape Cod Community College on Feb. 17.

During the event, 86 grants were presented by The Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank’s Charitable Foundation Trust of which 14 were awarded to teachers at seven Southeastern Massachusetts schools, including eight Wareham educators.

All kindergarten through 12th grade public educators from the communities served by Cape Cod Five were invited, and more than 140 people attended. Award winning teachers from both 2016 and 2015 made presentations, sharing key elements of their projects.

Public school teachers from all grade levels on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Southeastern Massachusetts coastal communities served by the bank may submit their applications for Mini-Grants in the fall. Teachers use the grants to offer unique educational programs that would otherwise not be available to their students.

Since the Educational Mini-Grants program’s launched in 2000, 993 grants totaling nearly $375,000 have been awarded. Talerman also discussed Cape Cod Five’s dedicated Mini Grants microsite, where teachers can view details of winning grant recipients and exchange project ideas.
