Wareham Selectmen approve town road use for parades, Swan Festival
Swans, Santa and swinging baseball bats – all reasons Selectmen on Tuesday approved the use of town roads for a slew of dates this year.
The first event, the Wareham Little League parade, will close part of Route 28 on Sunday, April 29. The parade will start at noon from the Tremont Nail Factory District. It ends at the ball fields on Charge Pond Road where teams will hold opening day festivities.
On May 6, participants starting at the The Church of the Good Shepherd will march down High Street and other roads starting at 1 p.m. for the Walk for Hunger. The walk ends at the church, located at 74 High St.
The Wareham Village Association earned approval to use Merchants Way, from behind Cumberland Farms to the Wareham Fire Station, for the Swan Festival. Last year, the festival returned after a hiatus and featured 35 vendors. Activities for children had been held in Besse Park, but will be moved behind the fire station this year. The festival will be held on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The association also received approval for its annual Christmas parade, set for Dec. 1. The parade will start at 3 p.m. near Town Hall and end at Besse Park where festivities and a visit from Santa will greet visitors.
