Wareham sites on list of 1,000 Great Places
Seven Wareham locations made the list of 1,000 Great Places in Massachusetts, State Representative Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham) announced Tuesday, July 13.
The places are Tihonet Village Market, the Church Street Historic District, the Cranberry Bog Farms Trail, Onset Beach/Onset Village, the Plymouth County Cranberry Country Routes 58 and 28, and the Porter Thermometer Museum.
The list was compiled by the 1,000 Great Places Commission, created by the Legislature. Its mission is to identify and recognize the 1,000 most truly special places in the Commonwealth, in order to celebrate pride in our history and culture, increase knowledge of our natural surroundings, and encourage regional and international tourism.
Rep. Gifford, who is the ranking Republican member of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts & Cultural Development, was one of Legislative appointees to serve on the Commission.

"There was such a sense of pride from all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth and it was evident by the 13,000 nominations we received," said Rep. Gifford. "I believe the six Great Places from Wareham are a great representation of our community and a wonderful addition to the list."
