Wareham teen wins first place at figure skating competition
Naomi Oliver,15, of Wareham won the gold medal for the Freestyle Event at the 2014 Bay State Games on Sunday, March 23, in Williamstown.
This qualifies Oliver to be part of the 2015 State Games of America to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska.
“The Bay State Games was a lot of fun. All the girls were friendly, and the staff was extremely helpful and polite," she said. "Winning at Bay State was an amazing experience. To go out there and win a gold medal means a lot to me.”
Naomi has been figure skating for the past six years and is elated to have won this competition. The Bay State Games in Williamstown is one of the largest figure skating competitions in New England.
Oliver's first time competing in figure skating was last October at the Winterland Classic in Rockland where she also won first place. The Bay State Games was Oliver's second skating competition.
“Winning competitions has been a goal I’ve had for a long time and being able to win State Games and move on to Nationals is a dream come true," she said.
