Wareham Vikings 1 win away from baseball tournament berth

May 29, 2018

The Wareham High School baseball team remains one win away from qualifying for the postseason after a 6-5 loss to Carver on Tuesday.

With nine wins this year so far, the team is having one of its best seasons in recent memory. From 2013 to 2017, the Vikings notched a total of 11 wins.

Tuesday’s loss was a close one. Tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, Carver hit a deep one to center field Wareham players just missed, bringing in a runner from third.

The team needs one win, against an opponent and time yet to be named, for a tournament berth. With a young team, including only a handful of seniors and juniors, the team struggled early. The team won its first game, but lost its next four games at the start of the season.

The team’s fortunes changed on May 4 after a 7-4 win over Upper Cape. Since then, the Vikings won eight of their last 11 games, not counting Tuesday’s match.
