When there are weekend events happening over the summer, Wareham Week will feature them in this little round-up we like to call Wareham Weekend.

Without further ado, here’s what’s happening around Wareham this weekend.

 

Saturday, June 2

Escape the Cape triathlon

The third annual Escape the Cape triathlon, held in Onset, begins on Saturday. Athletes will compete in a 1/3-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run. The race starts at 8 a.m. at Shell Point.

 

Collection Day at YMCA

The Gleason Family YMCA is holding its annual Collection Day for electronics and small appliances on Saturday in the YMCA parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.

For a $5, the public can dispose of old computers, air conditioners, and microwaves. For a $20 fee, the public can dispose of TVs.

Cash and checks are accepted. Look for the PC Trading LTD truck parked in the lot.

Sunday, June 3

Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby

The Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby on Sunday.

Check-in for the event starts at 4 a.m. at 146 Tihonet Road. Fishing begins at 6 a.m., and prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for adults and $3 for children age 14 and younger. The fee includes breakfast. Lunch will be available for purchase. Bait will also be available on-site.

Participants can register online at www.tihonet.com or download forms from www.wrgclub.net.

Forms are also available at Shirt Shack at 260 Marion Road and at M&D Bait & Tackle at 49 Main Street in Wareham.

Pre-registration is offered on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Box Mill Hall in Tihonet Village, 146 Tihonet Road. Derby-day registration is also available.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club Youth Group. The derby falls on the Massachusetts Free Fishing Weekend, therefore, fishing licenses are not required this year.

Escape the Cape triathlon, day 2

A women-only Escape the Cape triathlon will take place on Sunday. As on Saturday, athletes will compete in a 1/3-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Shell Point.

 

Harpist concert at Church of the Good Shepherd

Harpist Shelley Otis will be performing at the Church of Good Shepherd located at 74 High Street on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Otis's program will feature Celtic, Latin, blues, jazz, classical, original compositions, and recognizable works from famous bands such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Admission to the program is $8, with students admitted for free. The church is air-conditioned and handicap-accessible. Light refreshments will be served following the performance.
