WCTV discusses plans for new studio, elects members of board of directors at annual meeting

Sep 28, 2012

Last year, Wareham Community Television members produced 210 live programs and 70 edited shows.

That's a whole lot of activity. So much, in fact, that the station has outgrown its studio.

"The building is just too small to do what we need to do," John White, president of the WCTV Board of Directors told members and staff during WCTV's annual meeting on Sept. 27.

The board is currently scouting locations for a new studio, and plans to use its nearly $1 million in savings to pay for it.

"This board has been extremely frugal," White said.

The nonprofit station is funded by fees paid by Comcast and Verizon television subscribers and through membership fees.

Also during the meeting, member Bob White (who is no relation to John White) was named WCTV volunteer of the year. White regularly shoots town Finance Committee meetings, and created the "Town Administrator's Report," in which former town administrator Mark Andrews discussed goings on in town.

Sally Morrison, chair of WCTV's Live Auction and Entertainment event, presented $2,094 checks from the proceeds of the auction to the two nonprofits involved — the Wareham Village Association and the Onset Youth Center.

WCTV members also elected three people to the Board of Directors. Incumbents John White and Paul Ciccotelli retained their seats. Longtime member Bruce Gannon was elected to the seat vacated by Roy Brenton.
