Wickets Inn & Pub abruptly closes
Ongoing financial troubles caused Wickets Inn & Pub to shut its doors without warning on Monday.
Owner David Wolfram said the closing was due to "misappropriation of funds by an employee," but said he could not comment further.
Wolfram said he was notified Monday that he would have to vacate the property. He posted signs on the doors of the buildings that thanked customers for their support.
The iconic Onset Avenue property was scheduled for auction last spring, but the event never occurred. Wolfram said at the time that the bank and his lawyer worked out an arrangement to prevent the auction.
"It's been a challenge since I got here," Wolfram said Tuesday, adding that it took him six months to straighten out issues with the property's liquor license.
But Wolfram is not giving up yet. "We're going to try to fight it," he said. He has owned the property with his wife, Mary, since 2009.
