Wines, beers, and bears... oh my!

Oct 30, 2011

Wine and beer superstore Wines & More opened in the former Borders location at Wareham Crossing on Sunday, October 30.

The grand opening celebration featured wine, beer, and food tastings, along with a ceremonial chainsaw carving of a bear in the front parking lot.

The bear, carved by sculptor and Lakeville resident Wayne DeMoranville, will be displayed in the stores "Beer Cave," which houses packs of popular beers chilled and ready to purchase.

DeMoranville started with a giant log and began carving at noon.

"It'll be transformed today," he said at roughly 1:30 p.m., with the log already looking more like a bear than a former tree. "It'll come to life."

DeMoranville, who has been working as a chainsaw artist full-time for more than dozen years, said he hoped to be finished with the sculpture by 4 p.m. After all, it was a Sunday afternoon during football season.

"The Patriots are on!" he said with a smile.
