Woman indicted for stealing pills from Kendrick House
A Bourne woman has been indicted for allegedly stealing anti-anxiety medication while working at Wareham's Kendrick House, a residential care home for veterans.
Pamela Silverberg, 49, has been charged with obtaining controlled substances by subterfuge, according to a statement issued by the United States Attorney’s office.
“She attempted to cover up her theft by substituting over-the-counter allergy medication which has a similar, though not identical appearance,” according to the statement.
Silverberg faces up to four years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine if she’s convicted.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Kanwit.
A manager at the Kendrick House reported that prescription drugs had been stolen from the facility on June 2, 2011, and June 9, 2011. Silverberg was summonsed to court, but the case was given to U.S. Office of Inspector General for Veterans Affairs to be handled at the federal level.
A community resident care coordinator with the Providence Veteran Affairs Medical Center noticed the missing prescription drugs upon a routine visit to Kendrick House, prompting the management to call the police.
The organization does routine checks of these types of facilities in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts to ensure that they are up to code and that procedures are properly followed.
