Woman robbed at knifepoint

A woman reported being robbed at knifepoint Monday morning in the area of Tobey Hospital by a man she had met a few days prior, according to the Wareham Police Department.

The victim said she had arranged to meet with Johnson in the hospital area, and provide him with transportation, police said.

Police said that David "DJ" Johnson, 41, pulled out a knife and demanded cash from the victim's wallet as her vehicle pulled onto High Street. Johnson then exited the vehicle and the woman drove from the scene until she located officers in the area. The woman was not harmed during the incident, police said.

As officers and detectives searched the area for the suspect, Johnson contacted the victim and told her the incident was a “misunderstanding.” Johnson said he would arrange for her money to be returned by a female friend at a pre-arranged location, according to police.

Shortly after the search began, Johnson was placed under arrest and charged with armed robbery, police said.

As Johnson was being placed under arrest, police said detectives and officers met Nichole Card, 29, who had made arrangements with Johnson and the victim to return the stolen cash. Card was also placed under arrest and charged with being an accessory after the fact, and receiving stolen property, when she arrived at the pre-arranged location and attempted to return the victim’s money, police said.

Johnson and Card were both arraigned on the charges at Wareham District Court Monday afternoon.

Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh stressed that this incident was not a “random robbery,” as the victim and the suspects were known to each other in some degree.
