A 63-year-old woman was taken to a Boston area hospital by helicopter Wednesday afternoon after she was involved in a one car accident at the McDonald's on Cranberry Highway, according to Wareham Police.

Onset Fire and Wareham Police personnel responded to the McDonald's at 3020 Cranberry Highway at 4:40 p.m. after reports that someone hit the outside of the McDonald's.

Police said an SUV operated by the 63-year-old, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her family, hit the corner of the drive-thru area of the building.

According to police, the woman may have experienced a medical issue, which caused the crash. The woman was the only one in the car at the time of the accident. She was transported to Tobey Hospital then transported via Med-Flight to Boston for further treatment.

Wareham Building Inspector George Stuart was on the scene after the crash. He said the structure of the building was fine, and that there was minor damage to the brick exterior.

A member of the Onset Fire Department said he could not comment on the situation as an investigation was ongoing.

The drive-thru at McDonald's was closed temporarily.
