YMCA takes steps to prevent spread of coronavirus

Mar 7, 2020

YMCA Southcoast, including the Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham, is taking special precautions to help prevent the possible spread of coronavirus.

Although cases have been confirmed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, none have been confirmed on the South Coast.

Twice each week, YMCA staff will deep clean the child watch area and the cardio equipment. All the facilities will use additional disinfectant during their weekly cleaning.

The YMCA also urges members to stay home if they are sick, wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when entering the Y, and wipe down equipment after each use.

The President and CEO of YMCA Southcoast noted in an email to members that these steps were being taken out of an abundance of caution, and that to the organization’s knowledge, no one exposed to the virus has visited YMCA Southcoast facilities.
