YO! Youth Onboard for Success to hold jobs workshop for teens

Apr 13, 2015

Many teens wait until school is out before they begin to think about looking for a summer job. To encourage teens to start the process earlier and to prepare them for the search process, the Wareham Unit of the Boys & Girls Club of New Bedford, the Gleason Family YMCA and OK! Opportunity Knocks, a project of Onset Foursquare Church, will provide a job preparedness workshop for Wareham area youth.

The free event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Boys & Girls Club, at 16 Hammond Ave., in Onset. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. The first 25 teens to register will receive a sling backpack.

Debbie Fringuelli, Executive Director of the Gleason Family YMCA said, she is “thrilled to participate in this event." Both she and Ken Fontes of the Boy and Girls Club agree to give strong consideration for summer job openings to those who participate in the workshop.

Applications for both summer programs will be available at the workshop.

Community support is being sought in the form of  “community coaches." Community coaches will meet with individual teens to review their applications, assist them with identifying strengths/weaknesses and to list any volunteer or other experiences they may have that may be of interest to a potential employer.

For further information, please contact Debbie Fringuelli at 508-295-9622 ext. 13 or Ken Fontes at 508-322-8722.
