Youth hockey round up
Gateway Youth Hockey had some ups and downs over the weekend, With the Grizzlies and and Warriors prevailing, and the Vikings Middle School 1 team losing by just one goal. Here's a round up of Sunday's games:
Gateway Grizzlies
The Gateway Grizzlies scored a win over Duxbury at Lorusso Arena in Hyannis Sunday, September 15, with a score of 3-1. Luke Mello, Matt Quinlan and Thomas Galavotti scored one goal each, and R.J. Vickery backed them up with two assists.
Over on defense Ryker King, Ben Martins, Tyler Kelly and Luke Mello led the way, and Chris Gauvin made a number of saves.
Pee Wee Warriors
The Gateway Warriors trounced the Hanover Pee Wee team 4-1, at Hobomock Arena Sunday, September 15. Alex DeMarco and Zachary Pateakos shared goaltending duties, facing a total of 11 shots from Hanover.
The Warriors launched 41 shots at the goal. Ben Demoranville got his first goal of the season, assisted by his brother Jake and teammate Dan Flynn. Jared Westgate also scored his first goal of the season unassisted.
Bethany Davis scored her first goal as a Warrior, assisted by Zachary Barris and Robert Ramsay. Ramsay would go on to score the final goal, after Westgate took the puck to set him for the shot.
Middle School
The Wareham Vikings Middle School 1 team suffered lost its season opener at Foxboro to Canton, 3-2.
The Vikings led toward the end of the first period after a goal by Vittorio Consoletti, assisted by Zack Lovendale. Vikings goalie Steven Strachan deflected numerous shots, but Canton managed to score a goal to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of the first period.
The Vikings regained the lead with a goal by Cameron DeMarco, ending the second period with a score of 2-1.
Canton scored twice more in the third period, defeating the Vikings.
