The Division of Marine Fisheries has reopened Buttermilk Bay to shellfishing, but a number of areas in Wareham and Onset remain closed after a May 7 sewer spill at the Town Pier.

The following areas remain closed until further notice: Onset Bay, Sunset Cove, Shell Point Bay, Wickets and Onset Island, Widows Cove, Bass Cove, Sias Point, Fisherman’s Cove, and Butler’s Cove.

An undetermined amount of sewage spilled into the bay when an issue with the system caused an overflow that ran into a nearby storm drain.
