Keep the barrels on the beach!
To the Editor:
This is in response to the article about the beach-goers having to take their trash home.
I am an Onset resident and I see on a daily basis what people leave on the beach. I can't tell you how many bags of trash I pick up.
We live in a beautiful place. Without barrels on the beach, it will be a complete mess.
Yes, it is true that Rhode Island state beaches have this "carry in, carry out" policy. They also pass out bags as people enter.
Littering penalties? That is a joke. Who is issuing these penalties?
Overflowing barrels show just how many people use our beach. If we want people to come into town, it must be clean.
If I had a penny for every piece of litter I pick up, I would be rich.
There has to be another place to cut the budget. People will not take their trash home. Onset will be a mess.
