George W. 'Doc' Young, 67
George W. “Doc” Young, 67, of Wareham, passed gently into the hands of God, embraced by his adoring family, on September 9. Doc was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, and granddad.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie (Stinson) Young of Wareham; his daughter, Amy Young of Chelmsford; his son, Brian Young and his wife Colleen of Middleboro and their three children, Sofie, Anna, and George. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Pamela Bartlett and her husband, Robert of Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late John R. and Isabel (Schroeter) Young. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter.
Doc was born in Wareham and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Wareham High School in 1963.
He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967 aboard the USS Newman K. Perry as a Radioman Third Class from 1965 to 1967.
Doc married Valerie in 1968 and had celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Doc worked as a carpenter until 2000.
He was a member of the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club and the YMCA in Wareham.
Doc enjoyed coaching Little League, and umpiring Babe Ruth, high school, and American Legion baseball games. He was the unofficial photographer for the Wareham Tigers Football and the Wareham High School football team from 1982 to 1991.
He loved all New England sports and spending time with his family, and cherished his grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 13, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery. isiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
