Thank you from Wareham Veterans Council
To the Communities of Bourne and Wareham,
On Nov. 11, the towns of Bourne and Wareham celebrated Veterans Day 2013. As the coordinators for the Town of Wareham, we can truly say that this Veterans Day was a multi-community celebration.
We feel that it is important to come together to recognize and celebrate our local veteran’s military service in a meaningful way. We emphasized involving the young people from our communities in the process.
The day’s activities included a parade on Main Street in Wareham, a Celebration Ceremony adjacent to the War Memorial, and a luncheon for veterans in the Multiservice Center. Several displays were available in the Wareham Town Hall.
The purpose of this letter is to again say thank you to all of the individuals who helped with specific tasks on Veterans Day, the many restaurants and supermarkets which provided food and supplies for the luncheon or coffee and baked goods for the refreshment tents, the individuals who organized and decorated the luncheon tables, received the food at 7 a.m., the senior citizens and others who baked desserts, the young folks who made salads, still others, individuals and businesses providing cars, vans, and a bus to transport veterans and others needing a lift, the folks behind the scenes providing administrative support, cleaning bathrooms and hauling chairs, setting up various facilities and services to make the day a success.
A special thank you to the folks who were involved with the year-long planning process and hung in with us through thick and thin, organizing participants in the parade, organizing the parking lot, setting up and decorating the reviewing stand or providing the sound equipment and managing the audio support through-out the day and managing the veterans luncheon. Others provided that special piece of equipment, animal or personal collection to make the day go smoother and add to the substance of the event.
It was a considerable task to pull the program together, but many hearts and minds provided the energy and initiative to make it happen. Each person, organization, and business can be proud of the results and their part.
All of us say thank you to the veterans who made their commitment to serve and to protect our freedoms.
Until we celebrate again,
