Library Friends thank supporters

Jul 29, 2010

To the Editor:

The Friends of the Wareham Free Library, Inc. would like to thank our community of loyal supporters that was involved in our three recent fundraising events.

Last week for the first time, the Friends held its annual used book sale outside the library at the Old Methodist Meeting House. We want to thank everyone who made their donations of clean, used books and audiovisual materials to the Friends. Thanks also to the people who stopped by to shop making the sale one of our most successful.

We also want to thank the Friends members who worked so hard on a hot summer day to bring the books from the library to the Meeting House, those who set up the sale, worked during the sale and helped with the clean-up. We could not have done it without you all.

Then on Saturday, a Spinney Memorial Library fundraiser was organized by the Salerno family and held at Salerno's just prior to Illumination. Supporters enjoyed a lobster/clambake, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle. The Salerno family has supported the Friends project to build a branch of the Wareham Free Library in Onset since its inception in many ways. We are grateful for their support and the support of those who attended this event. It was a terrific evening for all.

Finally, on Sunday afternoon, the Wareham Gatemen held their annual Friends of the Wareham Free Library night at Spillane field for their game against Cotuit. The Friends wish to thank the Gatemen organization for their continued support of the Friends and for the donation of the 50/50 raffle.

Richard Johnson, Curator of the Boston Sports Museum threw out the first pitch for the Friends, and a copy of his autographed book was one of the raffle prizes. The Gatemen now have a new and enthusiastic fan in Dick Johnson!

It is wonderful to see the overwhelming support the Friends of the Wareham Free Library has in our community. The Friends are a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, and we intend to continue our work to foster public interest and support for the library through our fundraising and to continue to enrich the cultural life of the community through library activities for the benefit of its individuals. Look for upcoming Friends' programs and events, and please consider joining this worthwhile community organization.

Sincerely,

Friends of the Wareham Free Library, Inc.
