Why Church?

May 15, 2014

Life in the early Christian church is described in Acts 2:46-47 in these words: “Day by day as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people.  And day by day the Lord added to their numbers those who were being saved.”

In other words, they cared for one another, they loved one another, and they supported one another, and the church community grew.

Fast forward a few thousand years to a survey done by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion in Public Life in 2012 which found the rise of the “Nones” to 33 million people in this country.  The “Nones” are those who identified themselves as having no particular religious affiliation.  http://www.pewforum.org/2012/10/09/nones-on-the-rise/ Why is that?   In our humble way, the parishioners of the First Congregational Church Wareham act out the possible obstacles and some answers which are a work in progress in the video “Why Church” in the link attached to this article.
