Cape Clambake Cod'nt have gone any better

The latest Summer of Celebration event to fill the stomachs of Wareham residents was Sunday's traditional Cape Cod Clambake at Zecco Marine in East Wareham.

The fundraiser, which raised money for other Summer of Celebration events, featured plenty of food, entertainment, and raffle items and was very well attended, with many of those in attendance left searching for a place to sit and eat.

"I think it's great fun for the townspeople to have a good, traditional clambake and have a great afternoon!" said Claire Smith of the Summer of Celebration Committee.

In addition to the clambake, event attendees also enjoyed music courtesy of the Sea Chantey Singers and a raffle with a wide variety of items including tickets to summer events and a signed photo collection, which was "a real treasure," according to Smith.

The traditional Cape Cod Clambake is done by digging a shallow hole in the ground and filling it with heated rocks, although this clambake had to forgo the hole for an above-ground setup. A thick layer of seaweed was placed on top of the rocks, followed by racks of food, including clams, mussels, a variety of vegetables, and lobster. Then entire pile was wet down, covered in canvas, and left to steam. After a few hours, the food was well done and ready to eat and was enjoyed by those in attendance.

The clambake was performed by Clambakes Etc. ("Get Baked With Us!") under the direction of head chef Jeff McKenney.
