Broad Cove, Muddy Cove and East River, North of Stonebridge were briefly closed to shellfishing Saturday morning.

According to Harbormaster Garry Buckminster, there was a report of water coming from a manhole cover in the Onset area of Oniset Heights around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Initially, it was not determined whether it was being fed by a broken water main or if it was sewer overflow.

The state Division of Marine Fisheries closed the aforementioned areas to shellfishing as a precautionary measure.

At around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon it was determined to be a clean water leak and the shellfishing ban was lifted, according to Buckminister.
