Cheryl L. (Dupre) Tavares, 66, of East Wareham, passed peacefully on January 25 at home while surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of Steven P. Tavares, the daughter of Barbara H. (Emerald) Blette of East Wareham and the late Rene Dupre, and the mother of Lynne M. Roupa of Middleboro.
She was born in Brockton and lived in Middleboro, Lakeville and Onset before moving to Wareham.
Cheryl graduated from Brockton High School and LeBaron Hairdressing Academy.
Cheryl was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She worked as a hairdresser in the area for many years.
She enjoyed going to the beach, cruises, vacationing to Bermuda, sewing, decorating, floral design and encouraging family and friends. Her love for her grandchildren was evident as the light of her life.
In addition to her loving husband, Steven P. Tavares of East Wareham, she is survived by her mother, Barbara H. (Emerald) Blette of East Wareham; her daughter, Lynne M. Roupa of Middleboro; a stepdaughter, Tahlia Mann of Middleboro; a stepson, Derek Tavares of Mattapoisett. Cheryl was also blessed with six grandchildren: Zack, Melanie, Tyler, Trey, Madison and Avery.
To all who knew her, Cheryl will forever be remembered for her courageous strength and perseverance when faced with innumerable physical ailments, her hope, her faith and her sense of humor.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
Visiting hours are from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Her family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caring staff at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence who provided such loving and compassionate care for Cheryl during her battle with cancer.
