Residents recognized for contributions to Wareham
Six residents were recognized for their contributions to the town Tuesday night when Selectmen gave out five Wareham Citizens awards.
"What we've done over the last year, every once in a while get a list of residents who do a lot of things for the town and don't ask for any recognition," said Selectman Alan Slavin, explaining that the board gives out the rewards as a sign of thanks.
The six residents given awards were Mack and Catherine Phinney, Noah Young, Richard Hagopian, Anne Campbell and Arthur Lee.
The Phinneys were awarded for their work with the schools, historical conservation and Mack's work rejuvenating the Wareham militia last summer alongside Howie Smith.
Young was awarded for his constant presence at all Onset events helping in anyway he can.
"If you go to any event in Onset, Noah is there cleaning up, just doing stuff," Slavin said.
Hagopian was recognized for his military service and his leadership roles at the Dudley Brown VFW Post in Onset and with the Wareham Tigers.
Campbell and Lee were both in attendance at Tuesday's meeting to receive their awards.
Lee was given his award in recognition of the 35 years he has led the Dudley Brown VFW Post. Campbell was recognized for her contributions to the community as owner of Depot Auto Sales.
Selectman Peter Teitelbaum said Campbell was awarded for her willingness to give job opportunities and housing to individuals who were dealing with challenges or had made mistakes in their past.
"She runs her businesses like they're a social service," he said.
