Philip C. Moreau, 78, Newton police officer

Philip C. Moreau, 78, of Englewood, FL and Wareham, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home in Buzzards Bay after a brief illness. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Sutherland) Moreau.

Born in Newton and formerly of Newton Upper Falls, he was the son of the late Conrad and Marianna Moreau and graduated from Newton High School.

Mr. Moreau was a police officer for the City of Newton for 27 years. He retired at the rank of lieutenant. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1952 to 1954 and was discharged at the rank of corporal.

He was a member of many civic and military organizations including the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Mass. Police Assoc., the American Legion, and the Nonantum Post 440, in Newton.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Jane Moreau, of Middleboro, Philip C. Moreau, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, of Bridgewater, Jeanne Moreau, of Falmouth, and Jacqueline Psikarakis and her husband George, of N. Easton; his grandchildren, Michael Caruso and his wife Shannon, Kimberly Carter, Michael Psikarakis and his wife Alexandra, Nikolas Psikarakis, Alexandria Chaves and her husband David, LCPL Justin Moreau, USMC, and his wife Christine, and Jessica Moreau; his great-grandchildren, Daniel Carter, Corrine Zimmerman, and Olivia Homer-Moreau; his brothers and sisters, Dorothy Buckley, of Simsbury, CT, Allan Moreau, of Natick, Carol Gentile, of Ashland, Mary Ann DeVito, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Richard Moreau, of Waltham. He was predeceased by his brothers, the late Henry, Edward, and Charles Moreau, and his sister, the late Judith Kramkowski.

 

His funeral will be held from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
