Several "Now Hiring" signs adorn the front entrance to the new Walmart Supercenter at 15 Tobey Road in West Wareham, and the grand opening is right around the corner.

While Walmart spokesperson Bill Wertz couldn't commit to an exact date on the grand opening, the signs plastered all over the East Wareham Walmart say the grand opening will be Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Wertz did say that the East Wareham Walmart, located at 3005 Cranberry Highway, would be open until the night before the new store opens.

Wertz said that all the East Wareham associates have been offered employment at the new West Wareham Walmart, although he didn't know what percentage of associates had taken the offer.

The future of the building on Cranberry Highway, however, remains unclear. Wertz said, according to Walmart's records, the company leases the building from KGI Properties, but the Town of Wareham Assessor's database lists the owner of the property as the Walmart Real Estate Business Trust.

Walmart had originally planned to open its new Supercenter in the spring, but a harsh winter and an improperly laid National Grid gas main on Route 28 made them push the opening date back to late summer.
