PTA to transform Decas school into the North Pole for ninth year
Attendees won’t need a sleigh to visit the North Pole on Nov. 14, when the PTA holds its ninth annual holiday fair at John W. Decas Elementary.
PTA President Nichole Mazzoli said the school’s entire cafeteria will be decorated like the North Pole for the fair, which will host between 20 and 30 vendors, including jewellery, doll clothing, and furniture crafters.
The PTA will also hold a raffle for 53 different baskets from each classroom. The classroom that raises the most money will get a pizza party, and the teacher will win a tote of classroom supplies, Mazzoli said.
“Each classroom gets a different category,” Mazzoli said. “There is a Lego basket, a Barbie basket, a tailgating basket … [and] we will have a special elf who will be selling our 50-50 raffle this year – our assistant principal.”
Mazzoli said in addition to “the big man himself” – Santa Claus – there will also be a Santa’s Workshop area, for kids to use.
“We are hoping for kids to do ornaments, little decorated mugs, and stuff like that,” Mazzoli said.
The PTA hopes the holiday fundraiser will bring in some more money than it did last year, due to a slower-than-expected fall fundraiser. Mazzoli has high hopes, however, because more than 1000 people have gone through the fair, in the past, and there will be local entertainment.
“Kaleidescope will be performing a dance … and the CARE program will be doing some singing, and maybe a bit of stepping,” Mazzoli said.
Mazzoli said there is still plenty of room for other crafters and vendors. Anyone interested should contact her at warehampta@gmail.com, to be a part of “one big day of North Pole craziness.”
“It’s a big community effort,” Mazzoli said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun.”
