This photo received from Brian and Jay McDonald was taken behind Water’s Drug Store on Main Street, circa 1919. The 100-plus multi-branch servicemen returned safely and were certainly happy to be back in Wareham and proud to have served our country in this conflict. One of the servicemen depicted here is Brian and Jay’s Dad (John J. McDonald) who also served as an Exalted Ruler in the Wareham Lodge of Elks #1548 for two terms. He was their 5th Exalted Ruler serving 1935-1935 and again in 1946-1947.

His dedication to our country was also expressed by being a leader in the Lodge helping in our community with charitable goals and projects for those less fortunate. Hopefully some of our readers will be able to recognize a friend or family member and reminisce.
