Resident stresses music education

Jan 11, 2016

To the Editor:

Just before Christmas I was treated to a lively Winter Concert at the Wareham High School. The Wareham Music Boosters were key players in organizing the event. They are trying to bring music back into the curriculum.

In addition to the actions of the Boosters, Alexander Breault brought his energy to the stage. I learned that night, that Alex is new to the music program in Wareham. I also learned that he is not a full-time instructor. Cheryl Morse, whose son Aaron plays the flute, was telling me that Alex is often at the school from 7 a.m. until 9 at night. Clearly Mr. Breault is enthusiastic about music. He directed the performance that night. In addition to guitar songs, the concert and marching bands and the musical theater brought some ‘sing-alongs’ to the stage.

In closing, I would like to stress to the School Committee that the energy and enthusiasm that Mr. Breault brought to the nights’ performance clearly has a place within the Wareham school system. The town will reap huge benefits with a full-time music program allowing students to build confidence and self-esteem.
