Wareham gains one town employee, loses two
As of Tuesday night, the town of Wareham has a temporary town planner for a six-month duration.
The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to appoint Kenneth Buckland to the position. Buckland will still work as Marion's Master Planner, a position he accepted in January. He will work 20 hours a week for Wareham.
Buckland has been involved in town government for decades. He was a senior planner and principal of the Cecil Group, a Boston-based planning and design firm, a position he held from 1998 to December 2015. He also served for a period of time as a town planner in Falmouth.
“We were able to 'snap him up' for this engagement,” said Sullivan.
“This is long overdue and frankly as a board we should've prioritized this a while back given the difficulties we've seen with getting some projects through,” said Selectman Peter Teitelbaum.
“The Planning Board definitely needs the expertise of a professional. They do as well as they can with what they have," he continued. "In the past, of course, we've had a town planner for decades and we need to move a little more fluidly and rapidly.”
Buckland was not in attendance at the meeting.
Jaime Rebhan, Senior Program Manager at the Community and Economic Development Authority of Wareham, which she joined about a year ago, will leave her post for another job opportunity.
“It's gonna be sad to see her go, she has kind of a presence,” said Tropeano.
Deborah Ramos, who spent ten years with the town as the Supportive Day Care Director for the elderly, will move on to the private sector.
