Classic cruisers raise funds for Onset Cape Verdean Festival
Some of Frank Bowman’s earliest memories came rushing back as he looked at a 1936 Cadillac coupe on display Sunday.
“My father had this exact model when I was growing up and he’d take our family out,” he said. “We’d go see movies, and I remember peering out from the back seat.”
The Norwood resident checked out the classic Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles and Mustangs entered in the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Antique Car Show held at the Dudley Brown VFW.
The show helps raises funds for the annual Onset Cape Verdean Festival, set for Aug. 13 in Onset.
“This is our fourth year holding the show,” said Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association President Arthur Joia. “It’s a great fundraiser for us and the festival, which attracts about 20,000 people each year.”
Joia, who arrived to the show with his 1970 Chevy Nova SS, said the show is smaller compared to others on the South Coast. There were approximately a dozen cars entered, but Joia said organizers are looking to grow it in future years and would continue to host the show.
