John J. Stanczak, 85

John J. Stanczak, 85, of West Wareham and Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on July 13 at the Lake Country Health and Rehab Center in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He also was a former resident of Brown Deer and Pembine, Wisconsin for many years.

John was the son of the late John and Veronica Stanczak. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Isabelle Priante and Celia Barker. He was married to his late wife, Jane, for 51 years. John later resided for the past 14 years in West Wareham and Florida with his companion, Elna Hulbert.

John is survived by his children, Lynda Riddle, Dawn Hecht; John, Jr., Bryan, and Randy Standczak and their respective spouses, of Wisconsin; and Gregg and Scotty Stanczak and their spouses, of Michigan. Nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive John. Other survivors include Rhyll O'Keefe, Erin Wolfe, and many other relatives and friends. His special long-time friends are Roy Gouge of Tennessee, formerly from Wareham, and Tom Dobson, his old C.G. buddy of Florida. They were faithful friends during John’s illness.

John was a man of devout faith. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wareham, and St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Pembine, Wisconsin, where he was an active member for many years. John enjoyed outdoor winter and summer sports; gardening; working around his large tree farm; woodworking; and was an avid reader. He especially loved being with the youngsters. He visited his family in the Midwest when possible and enjoyed their activities, family cookouts and other get togethers.

He attended schools in Ironwood, Michigan; Coast Guard Radio school in Groton, Connecticut; and the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he studied electronics which later became his career. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. His first assignment after boot camp training was on the “Hornbeam” in Woods Hole.

He attained the rank of Radioman 1st Class. His tour of duty ended in Ketchikan, Alaska where he and his wife made their home for a period of time. Later, John was the owner/president of Dobbco, Inc. in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area for more than 30 years. 
John’s funeral Mass was held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, on July 18. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
