Trey Miranda Foundation receives donations from Junior Onset Bay Association
Heading back to school will be easier for some Wareham kids in need thanks to a donation from the Junior Onset Bay Association.
The Junior Onset Bay Association recently gave supplies and backpacks to Teena Miranda who started a backpack drive in memory of her late son, Trey Miranda.
Trey passed away on June 5 from brain cancer at the age of 17. He first underwent treatment for a brain tumor when he was 8 years old. Though the tumor was successfully removed, doctors warned there was a chance more tumors would follow.
In November 2015, Trey started experiencing symptoms and succumbed to the diease, but not before he brought the community together with his courageous fight and enthusiasm for life.
When Miranda posted her efforts for a backpack drive on Facebook, the response from the community was incredible, she said. Donations allowed her to purchase backpacks and fill them with school supplies.
The Junior Onset Bay Association is a group of boys and girls ages 12 to 18 that meet monthly to brainstorm and assist with community projects. While the group currently has no members due to them going away to college, the previous group – Kylie Sylva. Madison Semple, Amanda Still, Danielle Miceli, Sasha Miceli, and Gwen Miceli – said they were glad to donate left over money from past fundraising efforts.
According to Miranda, 85 students of all ages will benefit from all the donations that have poured in from all over town.
