Wareham and state officials are investigating what caused a fire that destroyed a town truck on Thursday night.

Assistant Chief John Kelley said Wareham Police, State Police the Fire Marshall’s office and Wareham Fire are looking into the event, which occurred at approximately 7 p.m. inside the Municipal Maintenance Building.

“Right now we’re trying to determine exactly what caused the fire,” said Kelley.

Upon arrival, Kelley said heavy smoke was seen coming out of the Municipal Maintenance Building. One of the town’s bucket trucks, used for tree work, was burning.

One town employee at the scene appeared to be uninjured, but was taken to Tobey Hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

The Municipal Maintenance Department is located at 95 Charge Pond Road.
