Wareham runner leads Bentley to 2nd place finish in Kirsh Cup
Led by freshman Paige Fehskens of Wareham the Bentley University women’s cross country team finished second among 11 teams during the Bruce Kirsh Cup at the State Fairgrounds on Sept. 17. The location will be the site of next month’s NCAA East Regional.
Fehskens, the meet’s highest finishing freshman, covered the 5,000-meter course in 19:33.8 to place sixth among 136 competitors.
Four other Falcons cracked the top 30 with senior Mary Leach of Peabody placing 23rd (20:22.9), senior Katie Burke of Braintree placing 27th (20:37.1), junior Courtney Loughnane of Canton placing 28th (20:38.2) and freshman Abbie Newman of Hanson placing 29th (20:39.3).
Bentley, with a score of 85 points, trailed only Merrimack College (65) in the team standings. Also cracking the top five were Adelphi University (120), The College of Saint Rose (121) and Southern Connecticut State (124).
